DR. AL B. SUTTON JR., Pastor
Seeks to minister to the masses through the preaching of the gospel, teaching, counseling, developing and implementing new ministries, and one-on-one interactions; while maintaining a sound and sincere leadership presence.
· Al B. Sutton Jr., was born August 28, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Reverend and Mrs. Al B. Sutton Sr. He attended Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1985. Continuing his education at Virginia Union School of Theology in Richmond, Virginia, Reverend Sutton earned a Master of Divinity Degree in 1989. In May 2004, Pastor Sutton received a Doctorate of Ministry from Virginia Union School of Theology in Richmond, Virginia, with a concentration in Cross Cultural Education from an African American perspective.
· Reverend Sutton answered the call to preach at the age of 14. He was licensed in 1978 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and ordained in 1980 by the General Mecklenburg Association in Charlotte, North Carolina.
· Reverend Sutton has served as pastor of The First Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Royal, Virginia, (1987 - 1990) and the Free Spirit Missionary Baptist Church in Buffalo, New York, (1990 - 2000) before accepting the call to the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
Reverend Sutton continues his vision of pastoral leadership and community involvement:
· Increased membership
· Increased the Ministerial Staff
· Established a third Sunday Morning Service.
· Established and re-established several ministries in the church.
· Received the Pillar of The community Award for Continued Community Support from the Loveman Village Resident Council, Inc.
· Outstanding Contributions to the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist District Association, Women’s Auxiliary.
· Recipient of the Greater Alabama Council Scoutreach 2002 Whitney M. Young Jr., Service Award.
· Serves on the following: Chamber of Commerce, Liver Foundation, and the Jimmie Hale Mission
· Continues to give back to the community and black colleges as the need arise.
· Under the leadership of Pastor Sutton, the Church was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for the 7th Annual Black History Concert “And A Child Shall Lead Them” by Don Siegelman, Governor of the State of Alabama.
· Reverend Sutton is married to Terri R. Gaiter Sutton. They are the proud parents of Gabriel Alexander and Treasure Christian Sutton.
